OACE makes Big Changes for 23-24The Oregon Association for Comprehensive Education is pleased to announce major improvements to our planned programming for the 2023-2024 School Year. This includes expanding the conference from one event to two, consolidating the Winter Conference, and adding Childcare. Read on for more information! Two Events ComingIn order to best serve Oregonians, OACE is offering two (2) events for 2023-23. This is a PILOT, meaning that if the Board of OACE finds that it doesn't work well this year they can revert back to the previous format next. Fall Educator ConferenceOACE is known for great break-out sessions, and this is going to be the biggest breakout yet! Our popular Educator Symposium, typically held on Thursdays, has been detached from the main Winter Conference and will be held independently in the Fall on October 11, 2023. The reasons for this change are many, but the biggest one is feedback received from a conference participant in 2022, who said that the information she got from ODE (the Oregon Department of Education) was so important and impactful she wished she had received it during the fall when she could utilize it all year long. Well, she spoke, and we responded! The early fall timeline will allow administrators, teachers, counselors, program coordinators, migrant recruiters, homeless advocates and others the opportunity to access important information earlier in the school year and utilize it in their current practice. A fall conference will be focused on Educators will be on Wednesday October 11, 2023 and presented virtually via Google Meet. Admission will be free to all, although registration is required. All sessions will be presented in English unless otherwise noted. Winter Family ConferenceOACE's traditional winter conference has a few tweaks, too! The original format of the conference was for attendees to arrive on Thursday, spend two nights, and leave Friday afternoon. For families who were paying to attend out of pocket, this meant three days and two nights of childcare, lodging, meals, etc, which could limit the accessibility of the program to individuals on restricted or limited incomes. For 2024 the format will be shorted to a two-day, one night event in order to reduce costs and expenses for all. Nevertheless, we will be packing in all the same content in to the shorter amount of time. Instead of the conference ending at noon on Saturday it will end at 3PM, allowing the same amount of time to attend. Although admission fees have not yet been announced, they are expected to be in line with last year's costs.
Childcare is Coming! For years, the number one "ask" for OACE Conference Planners has been Childcare, and for 2024 we are going to PILOT an experimental program to do just that! Two programs, one for PreK-3 and the other grades 4 and up will be presented at OACE for the first 100 registered applicants.
Two levels of ChildcareOACE will present TWO levels of Childcare: one for younger and one for older.
